About Colin Thomson
You could say I’ve seen it all.
I am a creative executive, entrepreneur, storyteller, and musician.
In 2016, I founded Kast Media and quickly grew it into the 9th largest podcast network in the world. In 2023, a downturn in the podcast advertising market led to one of the most dramatic and public business failures ever in the creator industry.
I lay out an overview of the story here.
These painful experiences and lessons formed the basis of the reform that I advocate for in my Open Letter to the Creator Economy.
My new series, Survivorship Bias, will aim to take an unblinking, warts-and-all view of performance and process. To balance the survivorship bias inherent in our media and storytelling diet, and show the grind as it truly is. Sign up to be notified when it launches.

As a podcast executive producer, I’ve led the development of narrative podcasts including Vigilante, Lost In Panama, The Opportunist, and Good Cult. I spearheaded the creative ideation, production, and launch of The Portal with Eric Weinstein, Impaulsive with Logan Paul, On Purpose with Jay Shetty, The Viall Files, and The Sarah Silverman Podcast, among many more.
I also lead a brand-facing team managing creative digital strategy and execution. I take the toolset I developed on the creative side and deploy it to help major brands scale impact. We've achieved remarkable success in both top and bottom funnel metrics. My campaigns have resulted in 9X+ ROI and successful partnerships with the top influencers and platforms in the world. I apply a unique formula, blending memorable creative with thoughtful, targeted, and granular deployment – and it just works. If you want more info, reach out at brands@colinpthomson.com.
I’m a musician and composer. I wrote the musical score for Lost In Panama, and am currently slowly, painfully writing my next work, 16:9 Sketches for Cello and Piano.
I have the most incredible wife, and I am the father to two beautiful kids. My Christian faith guides me. I'm blessed beyond anything I could ever have imagined.
I love writing, reading. I love stories. Coffee. Data. I’m interested in performance.

I run. Cheaper than therapy. 4 marathons, chasing 2:59:59, 29 minutes away. I’m obsessed with the similarities between running and business — rhythm, strategy, consistency, discipline, suffering.
I’ve lived the edges of success and failure.
I build and rebuild — with scars.
I guess that’s the difference.
